Aratar

Little is known about Aratar. She is immensely old, having been alive for several years when the Oracle first came into existence, over 7,500 years ago. Though her rider had been granted immortal life as long as the Oracle was in existence, it is not uncommon for dragons to live as long as Aratar, especially if they do not have to face the rigors of life in the wild. Since the Oracle came into existance, Aratar and her rider have lived beneath the Scribe's Hall, in a specially-constructed cave/pit situated directly beneath the Oracle's dais. Aratar rests curled up beneath the dais itself, with her rider's quarters branching off of the cavern. Aratar very rarely leaves her cave, except occasionally to fly and/or hunt. She has no need to leave, otherwise.

Because of her age, Aratar's size is immense. Her body is long and sinuous, and she long ago lost the use of her wings, relying instead on the power of levitation to become airborne, when the need arises. She is coated in bright, glittering scales that seem to have been carved from gold, and even her horns themselves have begun to take on a golden sheen. She is well cared-for and in very good health, and is an amiable dragon, though she has gained a rather malicious sense of humor and a mischievous streak as she has aged. It was her that started the greater majority of the rumors about what she did to people who fell into her pit below the Oracle's dais. Aratar's breath weapons are a cone of fire and a cloud of toxic chlorine gas. Of the two, Aratar is more likely to use the fire weapon if driven to combat, and she uses it with devastating accuracy and effectiveness.

Though almost everyone in the kingdom knows about Aratar, as her name is one of the most historical in all the land, very little is known about her on a personal basis. She keeps to herself, with her main goal being the welfare of her rider. Her rider, though immortal and possessing the same physical strength and features as she did when she was granted immortality at the age of 25, is as old as Aratar, and has begun to become weary with life. Where this will lead in the future is anybody's guess….
