Ryl and Trowa are almost complete polar opposites, which may seem surprising at first. Ryl lives for practical jokes and play, while Trowa would prefer more serious pursuits, such as literature and intellectual pursuits. But buried beneath their differences are some startling similarities: Both know what it feels like to feel isolated because of going against the norm. Trowa's family would prefer him to follow in his father's bard footsteps, and Ryl's own clan's behavior have tended to make them outcasts, though Ryl herself would much rather just get along with everyone. Together, they have made a near inseparable pair, and a very strong bond.

Ryl's breath weapon is a jet of corrosive acid. She also has a second breath weapon; a trait unique to metallic dragons. No other species subgroups have two weapons to choose from. Ryl's second breath weapon is a cone of slow gas, with a reach of 30 feet long, 20 feet high, and 20 feet wide In addition, she uses her quick wit to compensate for her small size. She is fairly even-tempered, proving that she can take it in as well as she can dish it out, though she does have a tendency to take losing very poorly.

Ryl is a bit of a showoff, and loves to be in the spotlight. She is particularly fond of riddles and practical jokes, which has made her become fast friends with Sally's faerie dragon companion, Fikriyya. One of her favorite targets is her own rider, though Trowa takes all of this in good humor. Ryl's natural cheerfulness draws Trowa out of his natural tendency to be withdrawn and quiet, though he most likely will never reach Ryl's level of socialness.
